Edwin's grandfather is a dentist in Edwin's hometown. Edwin has always admired his grandfather and has decided to become a dentist as well, an idea his parents have strongly encouraged. Before starting college, Edwin declared a biology major with a predental focus. He chose a school with a great predental program, sought his grandfather's advice on what courses he should take, and used that advice to create a time line of the courses he needs for the next 4 years. He also lined up an internship at a local dental practice for the next two summers. After his first year of school, though, Edwin's grades in his predental science requirements are not great, and he finds all the lab work difficult and uninteresting.
