HELP CER: Evidence (quotes - word for word from the text!)
1. Sentence starter (For example, The text states, The author writes, Isabel says, According to Madam, etc.)
2. Quotation marks "...quote..."
3. Citation - give credit to the author, show the reader where the quote is coming from (Anderson, #).
Example: According to the Isabel, "if an entire nation could seek its freedom, why not a girl?" (Anderson, 272).
