A complement is part of a sentence that follows the subject and verb. Complements are sometimes necessary for the sentence to make sense. There are four types of complements: direct objects, indirect objects, predicate nominatives, and predicate adjectives. A direct object is a noun or pronoun that receives the action of the verb. The verb used with a direct object is always an action verb. Direct objects answer the question What? or Whom? Example: Jason hit a grand slam. Complete each of the following sentences with a direct object.

1. Nadia watched .

2. The doctor examined .

3. Mr. Gallagher teaches .

4. Cedric caught .

5. Lily takes .
