Transporte: to go by car / by bus / by train / by plane

Con el transporte usamos by para introducir el modo. Pero ¡cuidado! La excepción es que se dice on foot (a pie).

He went to Helsinki by plane.

I’m going to Lisbon by train.

Should we go by bus or by car?

I usually get to work on foot.

También para hablar de la duración en varios modos de transporte:

It’s an hour by car, but it takes longer if you go by train.

The trip to Mallorca takes 8 hours by boat.

quite an interesting way to teach topic sentences, because the answer to this question is the best definition of a topic sentence that one can present, it is as if answering the questions taught you how to do it, this is some real teaching, it is terribly well-done.

the topic sentence in this paragraph is:

topic sentences writers stay on track and keep a paragraph from becoming an aimless collection of sentences about an idea.

which incidentally tells you what a topic sentence should be.
