Mankind has often wrestled with the relationship between fate and self-determination. Today you will be writing a four-paragraph essay that analyzes free will vs. fate. Write one paragraph about a time in your life when your inner strength and perseverance changed the outcome. Next one paragraph about a time in your life when you believe fate played a role in something important that happened in your life. Then write a paragraph about how this complex dynamic of fate vs. free will is manifested in one of the characters from William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth and finally write one paragraph about how this complex dynamic is also manifested in one of the nonfiction examples about children soldiers that we reviewed in class. We have created a Works Cited Page for this assignment in a previous class. Please include a Works Cited Page to your four-paragraph essay for full credit.
You must use evidence from William Shakespeare's Macbeth to prove your point in paragraph three.
You must use evidence from one of the articles, videos or interviews that we examined in class about children soldiers in paragraph four.
You may use the word "I" in this essay because you are writing about your own experiences in paragraph one and paragraph two.

In order really to hate white people, one has to blot so much out of the mind — and the heart — that this hatred itself becomes an exhausting and self-destructive pose. but this does not mean, on the other hand, that love comes easily: the white world is too powerful, too complacent, too ready with gratuitous humiliation, and, above all, too ignorant and too innocent for that.which sentence best explains how the use of parallelism in the excerpt supports baldwin's purpose? a. it proves baldwin's central idea by highlighting the obvious.b. it emphasizes the problems that prevent one from loving the white world.c. it explains why the white world is unable to replace hate with love.d. it enumerates the many ways of dealing with the white world.
