The trip was a(n) adventure
hypothesis
When Lafayette invited James to accompany him and his French
friends, he readily accepted. Together they went up the Hudson on a
barge, and although James was seasick when they ran into two
hurricanes, one right after another, he experienced no return of his
"falling sickness." In fact, he had never had so much fun in his life.
When they left the barge in Albany and took off through the woods,
camping as they went, James was put in charge of directing the route
of the march. Lafayette took care of the horses. One of the
Frenchmen saw to overnight arrangements and one did the cooking.
(He made fantastic soup.) The trip took longer than expected, causing
James to arrive back in Richmond two weeks late for the fall season.
He had to pay a fine, but he didn't care.
