Argumentative Essay: Do girls or boys face more societal pressure—or do they face equal amounts?

Today you will work on your introductory paragraph. Your paragraph should be 3-5 sentences in length and should include the following.

1. A Hook- Grab the readers attention with an interesting opening sentence. This can be a question, fact, or an anecdote (short story).

2. Introduce the topic and why it is important.

3. Thesis Statement- Tells the reader your purpose for writing and states the stance you are taking on the subject.

Alright. I'm not sure what your thoughts are on this, but I will take three different sides to this argument essay...making a side for girls facing more societal pressure than boys, boys facing more societal pressure than girls and then an equal response for both the sexes.

In a society like ours, it is hard to find equality for any good person. Girls and boys face many social differences and unbalanced amounts of equality. However, I believe girls tend to face more of the heartache for differences. In this essay, we will talk about the reasons why girls are more likely to face societal pressure and why.

In a society like ours, it's hard for both genders to receive equality and kindness. Both males and females face the same amount of societal pressure. With this being said, we shall move on to the main idea, why both sexes face equal amounts of societal pressure and why.

1. read the following excerpt from franklin d. roosevelt's "fireside chat 19":

on the other side of the picture, we must learn also to know that guerilla warfare against the germans in, let us say serbia or norway, us; that a successful russian offensive against the germans us; and that british successes on land or sea in any part of the world strengthen our hands.

remember always that germany and italy, regardless of any formal declaration of war, consider themselves at war with the united states at this moment just as much as they consider themselves at war with britain or russia. and germany puts all the other republics of the americas into the same category of enemies. the people of our sister republics of this hemisphere can be honored by that fact.  

the true goal we seek is far above and beyond the ugly field of battle. when we resort to force, as now we must, we are determined that this force shall be directed toward ultimate good as well as against immediate evil. we americans are not destroyers — we are builders.
