The characters from Poe's The Raven are the unnamed speaker, Lenore, and of course the raven.  What connects these characters is the speaker's love for Lenore, and the raven is a representation of death.  The speaker is grieving over his lovers' death and this raven is like a prophetic being showing the speaker that loss and grief will always be a part of life.
