Read the following excerpt from Scooter by Ruth Kelley, then answer the question. Scooter by Ruth Kelley Cricket magazine, May/June 2013 During that cold, rainy weather, I had a heck of a time trying to catch Scooter. Slim said I should try to get to be his friend. "He's been running loose on the range for the last couple of months. He needs to be gentled down again," Slim explained. "And like most mules, Scooter's got a mind of his own. But after he gets used to you, he'll be more likely to do what you want him to do." So after school, all during the wet weather, I tried and tried to make friends with Scooter. But that frisky little mule only wanted to play. As soon as I'd get near him, he'd scoot off in another direction. Then he'd stop and look back at me. It was as if he were teasing. After getting sopping wet a few times from just trying to pat him, I discovered that if I took him a carrot, he wouldn't run away. But it looked like it might be a long time before I could get to ride the little stinker. Which of the following is evidence? I discovered that if I took him a carrot, he wouldn't run away. The narrator is a boy. The story takes place in the winter. The narrator and Scooter eventually become friends.

the civil rights act was passed on april 9, 1866 by a republican dominated congress. it was passed over president johnson's veto, in an effort to push back against discrimination of african americans.

wordsworth tends to see nature as 'out there'; a presence which surrounds humans, and contributes to human life, but is different from humans. if you look at a typical wordsworth poem (there was a boy, ye knew him well ye rocks) - wordsworth talks about nature as something that needs to be learned about and understood, nature is different from us.  

if you look at a byron poem (the isles of greece is a good one) - byron looks at nature mainly for what it already means to man. wordsworth will look at a landscape and see the mountains, trees, valleys, and rivers as almost spiritual presences - wordsworth wants to get to know nature.  

byron will look at the same landscape and he will want to know who lives there, what are the villages? are there any farms or mines, is there some history?  

wordsworth looks at nature for what it is; byron is forever asking what it means.  

wordsworth thinks that humans are part of nature; byron thinks that nature is part of being human
