Poverty is looking into a black future explain​

The quote comes from a black essayist, Jo Goodwin Parker. Parker reflects on her experiences with poverty growing up outside of suburbs and within improvised black inner city schools. The excerpt “poverty is looking into a black future” pulls from her experience of being African American growing up in improvised area. POC are often much more at risk to be within poverty and improvised areas due to racial history and current societal barriers. Thus, Parker reflects through this quote that many of those who come from poverty will be African American and less privileged than white suburbanites. Being within poverty is more often a generational burden put upon many POC communities and is systemically racially rooted. Many of the things Parker describes after that is a means of escapism or desperation from improvised situations (stealing, turning to alcohol/drugs/etc.)
