After reading “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” I want you to write your own piece mirroring the style of James Thurber. You will write a linear story, like James Thurber wrote, having Walter Mitty survive a day of shopping with his wife (maybe your linear story is going through a day of school, running a marathon, or playing a soccer game or football game…). Intermittently, like Thurber wrote, you will add in some daydreams of your own. Like in the story, these “daydreams” can be completely unrealistic. The linear story can be an everyday experience, but the story is mostly focused on the “daydreams” and interesting because of the “side stories.”
