We have now read through 3⁄4 of Laurie Halse Anderson’s novel, Speak. About halfway through, we learned the terrible secret that Melinda has kept hidden from everyone in her life. The stress of keeping this secret has clearly taken its toll on Melinda; she has lost her friends, her grades have plummeted, and her appearance has drastically changed. For this assignment, imagine you are another student who was present at the end-of-summer party where Melinda had her first encounter with Andy Evans, and that you witnessed what he did to her. Write an anonymous letter to someone in Melinda’s life that you think could help her deal with the trauma she has suffered, and hopefully improve her life. Be sure to include specific examples of how Melinda has suffered throughout the school year so far, and what you want the person to whom you write your letter to do about it. Requirements:
● List of 4-5 specific examples or quotes that reveal Melinda’s suffering
● 1-2 pages, typed, double-spaced, size 12 font
● Proper letter format: salutation, body, closing
