What type of character is kamau

Alika: Alika is the main character of the play, Kamau.  He is a young Hawaiian living in Hawaii right after the Great Mahele.  He is a tour guide for Aloha Tours.  Alika went to Kamehameha High School but he did not go on to college.  He has two cousins Michael and George.  He lives with Lisa (George’s wife), Stevie (Georgie’s daughter), and Michael.  Unfortunately both of Alika’s parents died when he was younger.  George also killed himself because he was so stressed about being poor.  Alika still hears voices by people from his past.  He hears people like his teacher and George.  He mainly hears his mom’s voice telling him what to do at crucial moments in his life.  He became a heavy alcoholic because he tried to drown out the voices with alcohol.  Alika’s problem is that he was offered a job from his boss to move up into management but his company is expanding on the land that they are living on.  This is a problem because Alika is supposed to be a Hawaiian and try and save his land from the haoles but he is poor and needs to support for his family.  Alika is forced to make a decision between being a proud Hawaiian or adapting to the haole ways.  In the end he chose to adapt because supporting his family was more important than anything else.
