Can humans beings choose not to remember? When and why might a person make a choice to forget?

I think if you try hard enough you can forget things, I'd say people would try to forget things that may have hurt them, or caused emotional distress. And if you can't make yourself forget, then your just stuck with sad memories. Hope this helps!! (:
