Annie Dillard demonstrates a keen awareness of sounds, finding deeper meaning in them, in her memoir An American Childhood. Now it's your turn. Using the memoir as a model, write a personal narrative about a time when you were deeply moved by a sensory experience. Perhaps you were at a concert and were affected by the sounds you heard. Perhaps you were on a nature walk and saw or smelled a field of flowers you will never forget Describe the sensory experience through the use of descriptive details and figurative language, and explain why it has a special meaning to you. Use the first-person ("I") point of view to tell your true story. Also, use narrative details to develop the experience and to sequence the events. Use quotations from the memoir to compare Dillard's experience to your own. Provide a strong introduction and a conclusion that reflects on what you learned from the experience.​
