A poison tree is a dramatic monologue written by William Blake. The poem is about how bottling up emotions can lead to even stronger emotions or hate. The poem seems to be about a speaker who is angry at someone, that anger grows leading to hate which then leads to an apple. The apple is the embodiment of their hate, it looks beautiful but could be rotten inside. This is an extended metaphor with how an apple could be rotten inside actually meaning how they hide their hate. William Blake could of written this with the intention of teaching how bottling up emotions hurt both of you more.
