If you were to aim a powerful-enough flashlight at the moon right now, the light would reach it in a little more then a second- maybe before you got to the end of this sentence. And how long would it take for light to reach our nearest known black-hole neighbor, called V4641 Sagittarii? Fifty billion seconds. If you aimed your flashlight in itβs direction, toward the constellation Sagittarius, the light would arrive there sometime around the year 3600.
