In the first few paragraphs, the reader emphasizes phrases such as “I have not heard from him,” “I was never entrusted with knowledge,” and “he was unwilling to trust anyone with that information.” In this section the reader interprets the narrator’s attitude as somewhat bothered or frustrated with Professor Barnhouse and the “Barnhouse Effect.” I interpreted the narrator’s attitude in a similarly, but I thought maybe that the narrator was more jealous of the attention the “Barnhouse Effect” was getting.
