Change the narrative style by using indirect speeches. (Please Help me out with it)

It was a few years ago. I was helping out at my daughter's school when a small boy came rushing up in obvious distress. He'd badly grazed his knee but, even after cleaning it up, he continued to wail.

"It'll be Ok," I reassured him. "Your dad's a doctor. When you get home, he'll make it better."

"No, he won't," sobbed the boy. "Why not?" I asked.

"Because it's his day off today," he replied.
