In what ways are you being taught the values of nationalism, patriotism, competition, and individualism during high school and college?

All the time, to all the things that have to be done. 

Students show nationalism with their hard work. They are patriotic if they love and promote the products of their country.

In the campus, students compete for self-improvement. Here, individualism is evident. It is a factor for competition, however,  in a way it aspires for nationalist and patriotic aspirations. At this point, it sets at a higher level of an individualist goals for the country's needs.

You’re taught the value of nationalism through your history classes. You’re taught the value of patriotism through the Pledge of Allegiance every day and through reading. You’re taught the value of competition every day through games or dynamics which are often used for different purposes, or through a sport also.  You’re taught the value of individualism through a teacher who promotes independent thinking, self-control and thought. I have to say that not every school or every teacher at school does this.

Let’s define briefly the meaning of each one of these concepts:  

Nationalism is the support of your nation’s interests and the identification with it. Learning from your history classes and feeling interested about it is a way of fostering your nationalism and patriotism as well at school.  Patriotism helps to unify a group of people for the best interest of a country. The more you read, the more you know.  Competition is the condition of competing. You’re taught at school to learn to win and lose as well, through a sport competition. Individualism is the least common value taught at schools, however, I admire those teachers who allow you to develop your independent thinking and self-control, they do it through different approaches, subjects and topics.
