What attempt does mildred make to save montag from being a complete fool?

Millie pretends that everything was just some sort of a joke or a simple demonstration to show how silly books really are.  After some convincing from Faber, Montag ends up going along with it too.  Mrs. Phelps and Mrs. Bowles booth ended up being upset after reading the poem Dover Beach.
