2. The witches hail Macbeth as Thane of Cawdor (Act 1 Scene 3) Banquo and Macbeth are returning from the battle when Macbeth is addressed as Thane of Glamis, which he already is, Thane of Cawdor, and future king.

3. Duncan arrives at Inverness (Act 1 Scene 6) There he is received by Lady Macbeth.

4. Macbeth kills Duncan. (Act 2 Scene 2) King Duncan is killed by Macbeth while he is sound asleep.
