It is likely that I would have heard about independence, and that I would have an opinion on it. If I had been a supporter of independence, Paine's words would have given me hope for the future. They might have encouraged me to participate in politics more actively. On the other hand, if I disagreed with his statements, I would have probably been angry or scared about the events that were happening in the country.
