Although the cover page is not the most important part of the content of a text, it can still tell you a lot about the document. A cover page will usually inform you of the author, the institution that finances the research or the publication, the date the text was published, etc. More importantly, the cover page can provide you with more implicit details, such as how serious or academically-inclined a text is.
