Dr. King skilfully uses the phrase " I refuse to accept" many times in his acceptance speech for the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize. Mainly in his reference to the civil rights fearless fight against racism he uses this phrase at least 4 times such as in his refusal to accept despair, refuses to accept things as they are ie "isness" and his support in the fight to make race relations how they "ought" to be, refuses to accept that man is merely "flotsom and jetsom" on the river of life but on the contrary, that man can influence history and be an active player in changing the unacceptable course of events, his refusal to accept that racism cannot be replaced by peace and brotherhood and finally his refusal to accept a downward staircase into a world of thermonuclear hell and instead insist that relations between nations be settled peacefully.
