c) i have a lot of respect for immigrants who left their homelands to come to america and start over in a whole new place. i don't know that i would have the courage to leave behind everything i ever knew to go to a place where absolutely nothing was familiar. it must have been both exciting and terrifying at the same time.

d) conditions for third- or fourth-class passengers on immigrant ships were less than desirable. their provisions often included stale food, stagnant water, and uncomfortable beds. many ships did not have enough bathroom facilities to accommodate the number of passengers on board. immigrants endured these hardships, however, because they had grand hopes for a new life in america.
