Geoffrey Chaucer (1342-1400) was an English writer; he was the first great poet to write in English, and the author of 'The Canterbury Tales', one of the best poetic works in English. Apart from being a writer, he was civil servant who successfully served three kings of England: Edward III, Richard II, and Henry IV.
