It started as a fluke, but ended as a success story. Ella Fitzgerald wanted to dance, but it seems she was born to sing. As a teenager, she entered a talent contest and planned to do a dance number. A pair of sisters took the stage right before Fitzgerald was to perform and did an amazing dance act. Intimidated by their phenomenal performance, Fitzgerald made a last-minute decision to sing instead of dance.
