Prairie dogs are not dogs. They are rodents. They are related to squirrels. People call them dogs because they can bark. Prairie dogs make cones out of the earth. The cones lead to underground tunnels. They keep the tunnels
dry. The cones form a wall of dirt. The wall surrounds the tunnel opening. This helps keep water out. Families of
prairie dogs live in these tunnels. Prairie dogs live in large "towns."
