The apples symbolize all of the speaker's life
experiences, suggesting that each one requires
attention and care,
The apples represent all of the speaker's friends
and family, suggesting that he did his best to
support them.
My long two-pointed ladder's sticking through a troo
Toward heaven still
And there's a barrel that I didn't till
Beside it, and there may be two or throo
Apples I didn't pick upon some bough.
But I am done with applo-picking now.
Essence of winter sloep is on the night
The scent of apples: am drowsing off
I cannot rub the strangeness from my sight
I got from looking through a pano of glass
I skimmed this morning from the drinking trough
And hold against the world of hoary grass.
It molted, and I lot it fall and break
