Activity In this activity, you will write a persuasive essay on a topic related to poetry. You should have already selected one of
these prompts:
• Does reading poetry make a difference in your education?
• What is the most important element in a good poem-rhyme, meter, or figurative language?
• Do poems need to be read aloud to fully appreciate them?
Here is a list of poems you have studied:

You could also write about other poems you have read.
Your essay will consist of five paragraphs. It should include an introduction, three body paragraphs (two stating your main
points and one proving the opposite view wrong), and a conclusion. In a previous Lesson Activity, you drafted an outline
for this essay. Consult your outline in the Notebook tool (C) as you write your essay.

Draft your introductory paragraph. Include a hook (an interesting fact or idea) to draw the reader's attention and a clear
statement of your view. State your thesis statement in one or two sentences.
