Frederick Morrick White's (1859-1935) story "The Four
Days Night appoars in his colloction The Doom of
London. The story is set in early twentioth-century
London and imagines the threat of a poisonous smog
covering the city. Although this story is fictional the
problem of smoke from coal fires combined with heavy
fog turning into a dangerous smog was a real problem
in London for hundreds of years.
