Read this excerpt from a memoir, I’ll always remember the first day in the new house that my parents had bought. There were boxes everywhere, and as I rifled through their contents to search for my baseball cards, I noticed that my parents were preoccupled with setting up our new television. I wasn’t sure why it mattered then, but I now know that history was to be made on that screen later that night. At the end of the day we sat down for the first dinner in our new home. I remember it well-we had pot roast. After dinner, my sisters and were exhausted from the activity of the day, and we went off to bed. We were roused from our dreams when our parents frantically woke us up and urged us to gather around our new television. I sat, mesmerized by the gralny image on the television screen in front of me. A man took cautious steps down a ladder and stepped onto a rocky surface. It was the first time humans had walked on the Moon. 1. to emphasize the challenges of moving to a new home
2. to describe a historical event from a child’s perspective
3. to illustrate how technology has changed over the years
4. to show how a child’s interests were different many years ago
