Gender-based violence simply refers to the violence which is directed at an individual based the gender identity. Gender based violence includes emotional, sexual, educational deprivation, verbal, physical, and psychological abuse.

The contributing factors that led to the human rights violation of gender-based violence include:

• Harmful gender norms: It should be noted that gender stereotypes justify the violence against women. The society believes that men are dominant, and aggressive while the women are subservient and docile, subservient. These norms then foster a culture of abuse like female genital mutilation and early marriage and forced marriage.

2. Hunger: It should be noted that the scarcity of food can lead to increase in gender-based violence. Food crisis can lead to physical violence and sexual abuse. Females face more early marriages as their families seek to reduce their food bill and some women has to go through a lot just to put food on their table.

3. War and conflict: Due to war and conflict, there are also an increase in child bride. War beings about rise in child marriage and forced marriage.
