5. Read carefully the letter Chris wrote to Ron starting on page 56. Chris is the definition of both
a transcendentalist and a minimalist. Pull 3 direct lines from this letter that prove that Chris fit
these two concepts and explain how these quotes prove that Chris was a
transcendentalist/minimalist. What does Chris want Ron to do?
** I completed a sample for you to look at.
Direct quote from letter (include page #)
Explanation: How does this quote prove Chris
is a transcendentalist/minimalist? Analysis
counts.
Sample from Mrs. Frantz
Evidence: I'd like to repeat the advice I gave you
before, in that I think you really should make a radical
change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things
which you may previously never have thought of doing
or been too hesitant to attempt (page 56).
Explanation: I think this relates to Emerson and
Thoreau because Chris is encouraging Ron to think
outside of the box and get out of his old habits. In
connection with self-reliance, Chris thinks Ron has
been stuck in a rut and Chris wants him to take a
chance, travel, and try to branch out.
