One major idea expressed in all texts this year is the notion of the American Dream. The American Dream is typically defined as the idea that any person can be whoever he/she wants to be if he/she is willing to work hard. Choose two texts (The Great Gatsby, Of Mice and Men, Their Eyes Were Watching God, “On the Duty of Civil Disobedience,” Letter from a Birmingham Jail, The Crucible) and explain what they have to say about this theme.
