Discussion Topic This unit focuses on different types of conflicts in literary texts. In stories, characters can face internal conflict within themselves, or they can face external conflict with other people, nature, or society.

Think of a conflict in a story that you’ve read recently, either in class or on your own. What type of conflict—internal conflict or external conflict—did the protagonist (main character) face? What did the character learn from the conflict? Was the character able to overcome the conflict?

Discuss whether you think the conflict in the story is a situation that could happen in real life and if the solution would have worked in the real world.

a myth is something that is told for many years that u go looking for and cant find and a truth is something that u can find in real life and can be story's of for example:

mermaid's and unicorns: u can't find them at all so they can be a myth cause u hear story's about them once u go looking for them u won't find them.

dinassours(can't spell): u hear story's about them at school by ur friends and one day ur dad takes u to a museum and u find fossils of them so u realize they are real and not fake.

we don't know all that much about cornelia aside from what granny tells us about her, along with what we can gather from her few lines of dialogue. it's hard to picture her, too, since we're not given any details about her mannerisms or what she looks like. she could be dressed like a circus clown, for all we know.

even though we wouldn't recognize cornelia if we ran into her on the street, we can't but feel a lot of sympathy for this character. first of all, she's super nice and granny pretty much treats her like dirt. she's constantly asking granny if she needs anything and granny usually responds by snapping at her. here's a typical exchange:

"i thought you might want something."

"i do. i want a lot of things. first off, go away and don't whisper." (14-15)

margaret paston and william paston got married in 1441. as william had to attend business, margaret was in charge of administrating her husband's properties and they communicated each other by letters. they had 7 children.   margery paston, one of those children, had a secret romance with richard calle, the family's bookkeeper and the pastons rejected them, as they tend to get marriage arranged for their children. margery and richard ended up getting married for love, but in secret by the church bishop.
