hotel and climbing the steps to my rooftop, I gazed out on a completely different Cairo from the one I had experienced in the market.
(8) From this view, Cairo looked desolate and forgotten. (9) Countless identical brown buildings shaped the skyline, but not one of its
residents was in sight. (10) Only a few clotheslines strung across apartment balconies gave signs of life. (11) I realized that Cairo,
despite its ancient past and current overpopulation, could feel very urban and isolated. (12) My trip to Cairo opened my eyes in many
ways.
