The benefits of forgetting the past is that you liberate yourself from many things that might pain you. It could be that in the past you’ve faced a certain situation that made you feel really bad or anxious, but moving on from that can make you feel better. Or if you got mad st someone you possibly betrayed you, releasing yourself from resentment helps you have inner peace because your no longer resenting what that person did to you. I guess the main cause would be wanting to finally have peace and not worry about what once happened, rather you let it go just so that way you can be happy.
