For this assignment, you'll try your hand at writing a scene that Shakespeare never wrote. Either: •
Create a scene in which King Henry and Prince Hal talk about the expectations Henry has for
his son and how the prince feels about those expectations.
Ditto, but between your parent(s) or guardian(s).
To prepare to write this scene, consider the following questions:
.
What are some expectations Henry had for his son? What do your parents expect of you?
o Why are these things important?
o
Is Hal fulfilling these expectations? Are you?
Where is Hal's mom?
.
What specifically does Henry object to in Hal's behavior?
o
What will happen if Harry keeps behaving the way he does?
o
Why does Prince Harry like spending time with Falstaff in the tavern?
. Is there anything he learns there that is of value?
. Is there any way that spending time with Falstaff helps prepare the prince to
be a better king?
.
How have the king's expectations influenced the prince's behavior?
o Do you think Prince Hal looks forward to being a king?
Or fears it? Or a little of both?
.
Did he have a choice?
Think not just about how Hal's aspirations are to exceed his father's expectations, but
also about how Hal's earlier rebellious behavior relates to these expectations.
What does Hal want? What do you want?
