Read this passage. Then, explain how the dialect and both Curt's and Paulo's response to conflict provide characterization. Be sure to use specific examples from the passage to support your response. Paulo stared in horror as the baseball he hit soared over the fence shattering the front window of the house. Let's get out of here!" said his friend Curt, who had pitched the ball We can't just leave!" Paulo said. "No one knows we're here! We could get away with it. If we dont we'll have to pay for the window." The front door of the house opened, and Curt darted off toward the trail. Paulo considered following his friend. After all, if he ran, he'd get away and no one would know he'd broken the window. But if he stayed, he'd be in trouble and have to use all his allowance to pay for the broken window. Finally, Paulo took a deep breath and walked slowly toward the imposing figure on the front porch. It was an old woman with her hands on her hips. "The broken window was my fault," he said in a meep voice. "I'm really sorry. I'll pay for it."
