Now it's time to apply your critical skill to writing. You will need your outline and any notes you have taken. Here is your goal for this assignment:

Write and revise a literary critique

Write a first draft of your critique based on your outline and notes; have someone check what you have written against your outline. Your essay should be at least 400 words long.

After a break, reread what you have written. Make any corrections in content that seem necessary. Then check your work for mechanical errors such as:

Indentation of paragraphs
Capitalization
Punctuation at the end of each sentence
Spelling of doubtful words
Use of quotation marks to set off exact words quoted from story
Use of a variety of sentence patterns
Correct punctuation within sentences
Ask someone who is good at writing to look over your paper and point out to you any errors in form.
Revise the draft and send the final draft to your teacher.
You will be graded on the following criteria:

Clearly state your position and support it with evidence from the text. Use specific quotes. Remember to document your quotes properly, using MLA format (click here to review the Style Guide).
Make sure each paragraph contains one main idea and supporting details. Use complete sentences including compound and complex sentences.
Include an introductory paragraph, proper transitions, and an appropriate conclusion.
Make sure your essay contains no errors in conventions such as spelling or grammatical errors, and is at least 400 words long.

What does the author see as the main cause for why students don’t really see shakespeare as a real, flawed human being? we shouldn’t shy away from discussing our literary heroes’ flaws. if nothing else, the knowledge of their failures us appreciate what success and greatness these authors did achieve. often our hero-worship keeps us from truly seeing the complexity of a great author. thus, i would argue, nothing would be better for high school students than to take shakespeare down a peg or two. a) the fact that students never learn enough about shakespeares biography b) the fact that students only read shakespeare’s comedies while in school c) the fact that students are never assigned to read any shakespeare while in high school d) the fact that students only read shakespeare’s greatest works in school and thus never see his weaknesses
