I stayed in a Best Western hotel the night before the Old Timers game, which reminded me of my playing days and the road trips we took. I couldn’t sleep. I wondered how many people would be in the ballpark. I wondered if I could even make contact with the pitch. At 5:30AM, I got out of bed to try some stretching. The red light on my phone was blinking. I called the front desk. It rang at least 20 times.
