Once consumed, they are categorized into one of the following sections: fat, carbohydrates, or proteins. Afterwards, they will either be used right away, or release their stored energy through a process called oxidation, which allows our bodies to maintain a healthy metabolic state. Calories are used to help us complete daily tasks, such as walking, and allow us to complete more rigorous activities like swimming, or running. Without calories we wouldn't be able to do anything at all.
