The meaning of being a peer Leader is Students who have been selected and trained to offer educational services to their peers. A peer leader is a student worker who will provide leadership and guidance to students at the Student Success Center. Peer Leaders serve as role models and help students make the transition to college life. Making a Good Peer leader is Self-Awareness, Social Skills, Empathy, Self-Regulation and Motivation are key traits peer leaders use in order to encourage group work, effective thinking, student interaction and active involvement. Very often peer leaders praise the dedicated and hard working students who are willing to assist their peers. Peer leaders are individuals who already possess natural characteristics of leading others and who are nominated to take on a leadership position to carry out a more guiding and facilitating role. Peer leaders need to learn and practice basic skills and competencies to be effective. Leadership, time management, and a host of other skills can be enhanced by becoming a peer mentor. Peer mentoring enhances skills and experience for peer mentors that can transfer into personal and career life. It also connects students, leaving them with cherished memories and long-term friendships beyond school life. All upperclassmen should act as role models to their peers. A leader is one who does the right thing, can depend on, looked up to, and forthcoming. A Good Leader can change someone's life for the better, I feel that I can do so.
