Assignment “Charles” Summary
First, write a one-paragraph summary of Shirley Jackson’s short story “Charles.” Be sure to describe, in order, the most important parts of the story, its main characters, and its central conflict and resolution. Remember that a summary should not include minor details or plot points.
Then, write a second paragraph that compares the written story to the film version of “Charles” that you watched. In that second paragraph, explain the ways in which the film is similar to and different from the text in terms of the details it depicts as well as how the film uses lighting, sound, color, camera focus, or camera angles to present the story in a unique way.

two paragraphs to compare and contrast the narrator's schools would be this, the one school with the veil is the one school were the students were forced to wear the veils, and they did not know why they had to wear the veils. the girl student writing the story was not like the other students, she didn't care. in the second school there was a lot of hostile activities going on throughout the school. most of the students were upset and this, including the author, but she was trying to look and the good side of things.  

overall, both schools had something that the students or most of the students did not like or appreciate. what you can learn from these stories is that life will never be exactly how you may want it to be. complaining about your lifestyle will only make matters worse or at least feel worse in the long run. that's happens to be the information you can interpret from these two stories.

she was born in baltimore, maryland, on september 24, 1825. after the death of her parents, her uncle reverend william watkins, a teacher at the academy for negro youth, raised and educated her. she also continued educating herself by accessing a library of the family she worked for, beginning writing poetry afterwards. as a civil rights activist and abolitionist, watkins greatly influenced her life and work.
