Question 1: Write a short paragraph of 10 simple sentences. Each sentence must contain at least one subject and only one verb. Any sentence that is not a simple sentence will not be counted.

Question 2:

Combine the 10 simple sentences from the first part paragraph to write a paragraph composed of five compound sentences. Each compound sentence must contain a coordinating conjunction. Any sentence that is not a compound sentence will not be counted.

Reminder about coordinating conjunction relationships:

Coordinating Conjunctions

- For: means because (introduces the cause in the cause/effect relationship) Example: I hate to waste gas, for it is very expensive.
- And: adds information Example: Thomas likes football, and he likes tennis.
- Nor: removes alternatives; what something is not, rather than what it is (neither, nor) Example: The girls do not like to dance nor sing.
- But: contradicts, offers contrast, or introduces something unexpected Example: My dog loves to bathe, but he hates his nails trimmed.
- Or: offers a choice Example: You can eat cake with a fork, or you can eat it with a spoon.
- Yet: introduces a surprising fact after the previous fact; more formal than but Example: I’m allergic to cats, yet I have three of them.
- So: means as a result (introduces the effect in the cause/effect relationship) Example: I am vegan, so I don’t eat meat.
