Edgar Allan Poe is best known for his macabre, or dark, stories and poems. "The Fall of the House of Usher" uses suspense, imagery, and symbolism to establish a sinister mood. In a well-developed short constructed response, explain how Poe uses either the symbol of the house OR the symbol of the family to develop a dark mood for the reader. (Keep in mind that the connotation of the word "development" hints at change from the beginning to the end.) Use at least two pieces of specific evidence from the text in your response and fully explain the significance of the evidence.
