Why do people use to stare at random things when thinking about something in mind

Explanation:

Well when I do, I kinda just "Zoom out", of the world around me and think about what ever comes to mind...

To answer why that is, I guess our minds sort of "freezes" and go into space, and now that im thinking about it, we dont just think about what ever because sometimes when this happens we dont think at all.

You just kind of stare, you know?

Plus, when "Staring at random things while thinking" Actually helps, it clears your mind and allows you to focus of what ever you were thinking about!
