excerpt from Willa Cather's novel The Song of the Lark

Part A

Choose one of the following prompts for your narrative:

Write a personal narrative, or memoir, about a time when you had a problem communicating with someone. Think about what caused the problem and how it was resolved. Consider events and actions that caused the problem and what you learned from the event.

Write a fictional narrative about a character who struggles to communicate with another character. Think about why they might need to communicate and consider events or actions that may lead up to their discovery of effective communication.

Write a fairy tale, or children’s story, about characters who have a problem communicating. Think about what events might occur because of poor communication and consider how the characters might resolve the problem.

In the space provided, identify which prompt you’ve selected and why you chose it.
